Botulinum toxin A otherwise known as ‘Botox’ is the most popular anti-aging treatment. It is a naturally occuring protein derived from the bacteria, Clostridium Botulinum. The bacteria has been processed to leave behind the protein.
Wrinkles are caused by a number of factors including age, sun damage and facial expressions. Botox injections target those wrinkles caused by facial expressions, temporarily relaxing these muscles significantly reducing wrinkles making your skin appear smoother.
Wrinkles appear most frequently:
• Between the eyebrows (from frowning)
• On the forehead
• Around the eyes (crows feet or laughter lines)
Each treatment usually takes between 20 – 30 minutes. A small amount of botox is injected using a tiny needle, which reduces the amount of discomfort. The effect of Botox is not permanent. You will notice a difference within days of the treatment although the full effect will not be evident until 2 weeks after the treatment. After 3 – 4 months the facial expression wrinkles will begin to reappear. After 2 or 3 treatments the effects of the botox may last slightly longer (6 months).
Side effects are extremely uncommon: the aesthetic practitioner will discuss this during your consultation.
Botulinum Toxin A is considered for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles only after a face to face consultation and medical questionaire has been carried out.
